Day 13: Book Blogger New Year's Challenge

It's Day 13 of Parajunkee’s New Year Challenge. So, now I get to share with you My Blogger Horror Story!

Day 13: Share a Blogger Horror Story

For me, my horror story is along the lines of the Blogger and Reader Bullying. I"ve had it happen 2 or 3 times in my blogging life and it is not pretty.

Example 1

I had posted a review of a popular book among many and I did not like it. I did not trash the book, I simply stated what I did not like and what was not working. And I get this comment that I must be crazy and that I'm stupid for not liking the book. And that I shouldn't even be reviewing books, because I suck at it.

Excuse me, What happened to Freedom of Speech? My right to voice my opinion about a book. I have that right. In reviewing books, we swear to be honest in our reviews and I did just that and I didn't even trash the book, simply stated what I did not like.

Example 2

This happened on Goodreads. There are some people on Goodreads that are so sensitive and think anything you say is you bullying them or in Goodreads term, a troll.

Basically what happened is I left a comment on one of my friends reviews to add to conversation about YA books and UF/PNR author thing and this other person reply's to my comment and I notice in her comment the way it was worded suggests that she did not read my above comment so I comment that and she out of nowhere attacks me and says I'm being aggressive and attacking her, when I was just simply pointing out that she missed part of my comment. And actually if it was anyone else they would say, "oh, okay. sorry. I didn't see that part."

But she took it like I was trying to criticize her and attack her when I didn't do anything. I'm aloud to point out that she missed part of my comment. She made such a big thing out of nothing. She tells me to grow up being I was trying to explain that she is way out of line when I never attacked her. She's the one who needs to grow up. What makes it bad is that it was on a friend's review. Not mine or hers.

I swear I get these types of people every now and then. Thankfully not a lot, but it upsets me that people are like this and cannot be civil to one another. Sometimes I think some of these people on her like to pick fights. Jeez.

  1. Oh so sorry this happened to you. I had someone call me an idiot because I didn't like a certain popular book too. Some of these rabid fans are ridiculous.

  2. Some people just amaze me. I'm sorry to hear about this. It doesn't sound like you did anything wrong, more like someone had a bad day and wanted to take it out on you (Example 2)

  3. Yikes! I have managed to avoid drama so far - but I've only been blogging since July. And I don't really get involved in many conversations on goodreads (just because I'm too busy) but maybe it's a good thing, sparing me the crazies!
