Cop and conjurer of demons, she's a woman in danger of losing control—to a power that could kill....

Why me? Why now? That’s what Beaulac, Louisiana, detective Kara Gillian was asking herself when an angelic creature named Rhyzkahl unexpectedly appeared during a routine summoning. Kara was hoping to use her occult skills to catch a serial killer, but never had she conjured anything like this unearthly beautiful and unspeakably powerful being whose very touch set off exquisite new dimensions of pleasure. But can she enlist his aid in helping her stop a killer who’s already claimed the lives—and souls—of thirteen people? And should she? The Symbol Man is a nightmare that the city thought had ended three years ago. Now he’s back for an encore and leaving every indication on the flesh of his victims that he, too, is well versed in demonic lore.

Kara may be the only cop on Beaulac’s small force able to stop the killer, but it is her first homicide case. Yet with Rhyzkahl haunting her dreams, and a handsome yet disapproving FBI agent dogging her waking footsteps, she may be in way over her head...

I hear about the Kara Gillian Series a lot for the Urban Fantasy Readers and I just had to jump into it. I was too damn curious not to. And I am glad I did because MARK OF THE DEMON was absolutely amazing!

Kara is a normal girl, who is a detective and oh, also she is a demon summoner, which seems pretty cool, right? Well until she summons one of the powerful demons into existence. Kara accidentally summons the demon lord, Rhyzkahl. He is ruthless and dangerous and you do not want to piss him off.

Kara is pretty cool and loves her work and what she does. She's not very confident in the relationship department. She's totally into Ryan Kristoff who is working on the case of the 'Symbol Man' with her. And Ryan is totally cool I will be enjoying more of their relationship and seeing where that goes

Now, let's move on to Rhyzkahl. Sometimes in Urban Fantasy I want a change. I absolutely love that Rhyzkahl is ruthless and dangerous. The don't mess with me type. Rhyzkahl does have a fascination with Kara and I would like to learn more about that as the story continues, but I do like him in general. This is seriously one hot demon lord.

I loved MARK OF THE DEMON. I will definitely be continuing on with it and hopefully each book in the series will get better and better. I can't wait for more Kara and her summoning adventures!

Review: Jagged by Kristen Ashley

Series:  Colorado Mountain, #5

An old flame rekindled . . .

Zara Cinders always knew Ham Reece was the one, but he wasn't interested in settling down. When she found someone who was, Ham walked out of her life. Three years later, Zara's lost her business, her marriage, and she's barely getting by in a tiny apartment on the wrong side of the tracks. As soon as Ham hears about Zara's plight, he's on her doorstep offering her a lifeline. Now, it will take every ounce of will power she possesses to resist all that he offers.

Ham was always a traveling man, never one to settle down in one town, with one woman, for more time than absolutely necessary. But Ham's faced his own demons, and he's learned a lot. About himself, and about the life he knows he's meant to live. So when he hears that Zara's having a rough time, he wants to be the one to help. In fact, he wants to do more than that for Zara. A lot more. But first, he must prove to Zara that he's a changed man.

"You took me only as I could give because you knew that was the way it needed to be for me. You gave me that because you love me. And I took it, fuckin' up huge. But now, baby you get it all back. Now's your time to get everything you need."

When I started JAGGED I wasn't all that into it. I don't really know what happened, but the whole "Friends with Benefits" thing I didn't like and plus I'm not a huge fan of the past lover/already had met thing. But the more I read the more addicted to this book I got. My doubts were lost. Like many other Kristen Ashley books I read I could not put this masterpiece down! This book brought my inner Kristen Ashley fangirl craziness back out again!

JAGGED is the story of Graham Reece and Zara Cinders. They both have known each other for a long time. Zara has been in love with Reece forever, but Reece's motto is to going to place to place, never growing too close to any woman and he likes to keep it that way, but Zara and Reece had be able to separate that, being able to see each other and not let it get to personal until Zara can't take it anymore and needs to permanently remove Reece from her life. So and so years later Zara gets in contact with Reece and somehow they end up living together because Graham Reece is totally one of those Alpha Colorado Mountain Men!

I really liked Zara as far as Kristen Ashley's heroine's go. I had no such complaints with her. He life is falling apart a little bit. She decides to divorce her husband because she just can't take that relationship as husband and wife with that man, looses her shop, her house and ends up living in some crappy apartment with a beat up door that is so unsafe for a young woman. And Reece moves back to Gnaw Bone and offers to have her stay with him, well, he won't take no for an answer.

"I love you," I forced out in a whisper. "I know." He did not whisper. "No. I love you," I repeated. "I know, cookie." "No," I stated, his fingers still holding mine. I didn't move but kept my eyes locked to his. "I love you, Graham Reece."

The first impression I got from Reece in the beginning was that he was this "player", all sex and no committment. How wrong I was! I swear there's a reason for everything and as soon as Reece started to fill out the great Sexy Colorado Mountain Man role my frown turned upside down. Graham Reece is a man's man! He has been in hell in the past with women and a man has got to protect himself and his heart! And I am all for that. But when he shows he cares, you really want Reece to care for you! You want to be that woman he gives his love and affection to!

So I fell for Zara and Reece HARD! I loved they're arguments and fights! So cute! And I know that Kristen Ashley writes the best sex scenes, that is no surprise, but something about this book made it even more sexier! I enjoyed going back to Gnaw Bone! I FREAKING love this town and it's people. I loved our little Max and Nina moments we got! I missed them! I loved how Reece protected Zara from her bitchy ass family and fought her family. JAGGED was a pleasant surprise and I loved every moment of it and I am definitely looking forward to the next Colorado Mountain book!

I'm surprised I was able to finish this book. This book drove me FUCKING NUTS! Not in a good way! I detest more than anything when an adult acts like a child.

Reasons I hated this!:
Indy is a 30 year old who acts like a 16 year old.
Indy lies all the time.
Indy is FUCKING ANNOYING!
Indy gets herself into dangerous situations.
Scratch that, DIVES INTO DANGEROUS SITUATIONS!
Indy & Lee bring out the worse in each other.
All Lee wants to do is get into Indy's pants!
Ally, THEIR RELATIONSHIP IN NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!
Last, but not least BOREDOM!

Review: Games of the Heart by Kristen Ashley

Title:  Games of the Heart
Author:  Kristen Ashley
Series:  The Burg, #4

Release Date:  March 16, 2012

From the balcony of his house, Mike Haines can see the quiet, commonplace beauty of the Holliday farm. But what he remembers is the little sister of his high school girlfriend, Dusty who grew up there. As a teen, Dusty had gone off the rails but when she was a kid, she was sweet, she was funny and she had a special bond with Mike. But after high school, she took off and Mike never saw her again.

Then tragedy strikes Dusty's family, she comes back into town and Mike thinks she hasn't changed back to the sweet, funny girl he knew but instead continued to be selfish and thoughtless, leaving her family alone to deal with their mourning. So he seeks her out and confronts her in an effort to understand what went wrong and to force her to sort herself out.

He finds out quickly he's wrong about Dusty Holliday. Very wrong. And right after Mike discovers that, the bond they had years before snaps back into place in ways he would never suspect.

But Mike Haines had a bad marriage then he played games of the heart for a good woman. And lost. In order to protect himself and his kids, he's cautious, he's careful to read the signs and he's not interested in finding a woman he has to fix.

Then he learns what happened to Dusty and he thinks she needs to be fixed. He swings, he misses and in this new game of hearts, for Dusty, Mike just got strike three.

After reading At Peace, Joe Callihan's book I had been introduced to Mike Haines and I fell hard for him. I was so in love with him and was super excited to read GAMES OF THE HEART! Mike and Dusty have known each other since they were kids and Mike had dated Dusty's sister, Debbie, who is a total bitch. But Mike and Dusty had always had a thing for each other. Mike is Dusty's first love. They meet again at Dusty's brother, Darrin's funeral and decide to get into a relationship with each other and see how it goes.

“Are you asking me to marry you, honey?” “No, I’m tellin’ you by the end of this year you’ll be wearing my rings, bearing my name and, probably, pregnant with my baby.”

What I liked about GAMES OF THE HEART is all the drama going on and also the characters. Mike & Dusty were awesome! Kudo's to Dusty for being on of the best heroine's in KA books. She's totally got that likable heroine personality going for her! Mike was bad ass, as far as Kristen Ashley's men go, but he has nothing on Joe Callihan! There's a lot of drama going on all around with Mike's ex-wife Audrey, Dusty's ex-boyfriend, Beau and the fact that Darrin is dead and they are dealing with that and Dusty's bitch of a sister is trying to sell Darrin's farm which belongs to his son, Fin now.

“As I’m concerned, Fin, you did not fuck up. Those boys didn’t touch my daughter. So the way I see it, as her man, you did your job.”

We also have a side romance of Fin and Reesee. I thought at times the this teenage romance was fun to read about. At other times I thought we had so much drama going on in Mike and Dusty's life. I enjoyed all the characters though. They were fun and loving. I will say that I didn't dig the Epilogue at the end of the book. I'm happy to know that seven years later Reesee and Fin get married, but this Mike and Dusty's book. I felt like they should've gotten attention at the Epilogue and that it shouldn't have been seven years later. But that's just me. I wasn't a fan of how it ended. Was a good read but no way better than Joe Callihan's book! Still looking forward to the next book!
